Survey Monkey Results

These are the survey results for our target audience. From the results we can conclude our target audience is between the ages of 16 to 24 of amy gender who enjoy energetic videos of an indie and RnB music scene. As a result of this  we will make our video to fulfill the needs of our target audience without trying to comprimise the feelings of the song and the vibe that the band were trying to get across.

Filming the band scenes

Last Friday my group filmed our band scenes for our music video. We decided upon an indie inspired costume decision. Myself Charlie and jake dressed in a t-shirt and chinos. The music department allowed us to borrow an electric guitar, bass guitar and a xylophone. I played bass, jake operated the xylophone and charlie lead the vocal attack. We filmed the whole song from a main angle and later captured close ups of all three of us lip - synching our lines and playing our instruments. The set took half hour to position the props and lighting and the whole filming for the band scenes took three hours to complete.

Digipak Brainstorm.

Last week my group held a meeting to discuss our Digipak, its components and design. On the left is an image of the brainstorm of our digipak and we are planning this week to create the digipak. song lyrics will be scattered throughout the Digipak and images of wild animals at night will be included to portray the irony of a 'Midnight Beast' in reference to our band's name. Instead of simply listing the track list of an album vertically on the back cover of a Digipak, we will take an image of ourselves holding a sign and photoshop tracks onto the sign to display our clever use of editing.

Filming Part 2 - Charlie's Bedroom.

The majority of our music video is to be set in Charlie's Bedroom. It is an ideal location to host a sleepover.    We used props such as bubble blow pipes x3, two blond wigs, dressing gowns and some vegetables. The filming lasted for three hours and we finished shooting the footage that will represent the verses of the track 'Booty Call '. We also lip - synced the whole of the track from two different angles, whilst contributing a lot of humour to the sketches.

Audience Theory

There are three theories of audience that we can help us come to a better understanding about the relationship about the relationship between texts and audience.

1. The Effects model or the Hypodermic Model.
2. The uses and Gratifications.
3. Reception Theory.

The Effects Model

The consumption of media texts has an effect or influence upon the audience.
It is normally considered that the effect is negative.
Audiences are passive and powerless to prevent this influence.
The power lies with the message of the text.
This Model is also called :

The Hypodermic Model
Here, the messages in media text are injected into the audience by the powerful, syringe - like media.
The audience is powerless to resist.
Therefore, the media works like a drug and the audience is drugged, addicted, doped and duped.

Monatge Theory

In our music video we incorporated the use of Monatge theory paralell with the lyrics ' were showing our sizes, the f****n suprises, that yours hasnt grown'. The effect of this is that the audience thinks there is a relation between Charlie and a Cucumber, myself and a Carott and Jake and a Brussel.

Narrative and Performance
The Star Image
Relation of visuals to song
Technical aspects of Music Videos

ILLUSTRATE - AMPLIFY - DISJUNCTURE

Star Image

The Star Image is another vital aspect of music videos. Meta narrative, which means a big story, describes the development of a star over time, it has an important part to play in the music video production process.

Creating a Music Video - Step by Step

As a group, we discussed the five main points in which it takes to establish a successful music video. These are choosing the track, planning the music video and in our case via a storyboard then begin filming followed by editing the footage. Finally finishing the music video, promoting it on Youtube, Facebook and Twitter.

Information about Copyright

Its s a legal concept, enacted by most governments, giving the creator of an original work exclusive rights to it, usually for a limited time. Generally, it is "the right to copy", but also gives the copyright holder the right to be credited for the work, to determine who may adapt the work to other forms, who may perform the work, who may financially benefit from it, and other, related rights. It is an intellectual property form (like the patent, the trademark, and the trade secret) applicable to any expressible form of an idea or information that is substantive and discrete.
Copyright initially was conceived as a way for government to restrict printing; the contemporary intent of copyright is to promote the creation of new works by giving authors control of and profit from them. Copy rights have been internationally standardised, lasting between fifty to a hundred years from the creator's death, or a finite period for anonymous or corporate creations; some jurisdictions have required formalities to establishing copyright, most recognize copyright in any completed work, without formal registration. Generally, copyright is enforced as a civil matter, though some jurisdictions do apply criminal sanctions.
Most jurisdictions recognize copyright limitations, allowing "fair" exceptions to the creator's exclusivity of copyright, and giving users certain rights. The development of digital media and computer network technologies have prompted reinterpretation of these exceptions, introduced new difficulties in enforcing copyright, and inspired additional challenges to copyright law's philosophic basis. Simultaneously, businesses with great economic dependence upon copyright have advocated the extension and expansion of their copy rights, and sought additional legal and technological enforcement.

Focus group

A couple of weeks ago, my group created a focus group in order to gain feedback for our music video's target audience. We asked questions that included ' what are your first impressions of our song? ', ' what genre would you describe our song as? ' and ' How does the song make you feel? '. From the answers we have collected in the focus group we can discover our target audience and therefore ensure we establish a music video with the components to satisfy that target audience.

My Favorite Music Video - Fall out Boy 'Dance Dance'.

I am a big fan of American Rock music and especially the idea of including the band with their instruments performing the single inside the video. Fall out Boy's 'Dance Dance' is a good example of combining both the band and a warming environment in a music Video. The video tells the brief story of some high school students, played by the band members themselves, at a school prom, hopeful of hitting it off with their crushes with help of the song 'Dance Dance'. The video truly captures the american idea of 'the high school nerd' with using classic nerd costume. I also appreciate the effort the team behind the video have put in. Hiring a number of actors to complete the rest of the high school students and other minor characters. Furthermore, the choreography of the dancing is very impressive as the dancing is in sink and the moves somewhat match the lyrics, for example when the lead singer quotes 'were falling apart to halftime' the pairs of dancers break apart to opposite sides of the dancehall.

Talking Heads - Once in a Lifetime

Very abstract video and seen as a massive breakthrough in music videos. David Byrne improvised a lot in front of the camera and came up with moves that he liked the look of. He looks like a puppet at times and is compleatly out of control which suites as the song is all about your life being out of control. He visited UCLA to view footage of people in trances and used this as inspiration for his moves. The New York Museum of Art exibited the video as an art form.

What makes a Music Video successful?

In a class discussion we spoke about the success criteria of a Music Video and the factors in which how it can be measured.

Screen+shot+2011-09-22+at+10.19.36.pngA more modern measurement of the success of a music video is the amount of hits the official video has on Youtube.

Magazine publicity makes millions of people aware of Music videos especially if they cause controversy or are of other significance.

Download results are also a method of success measurement, high downloads of a particular song could be because of the popularity of the Music video.

Television is perhaps the biggest way to discover the success of a Music Video. The more a music video is shown is evident to its increasing positive reputation. Requests from Audiences also effectively show a Music Videos success.

' Booty Call ' Lyrics

I'm with my friends having a sleepover at mine,
Mum said lights off, but they're still on at half nine,
There's nothing gay 'bout doing nails and doing hair,
Nor nothing gay 'bout three boys playing truth or dare,
That's when my brush vibrated right between my legs,
T-t-to my surprise it was my phone instead,
Dru makes and interception,
Grabs my phone out my hand,
'Hello you've reached The Midnight Beast, you're ruining our plans! '

B-double-o-t-y
It's three over average girls calling three under average guys
"We're fucked up and we're ready to play
We wanna do things we'll regret the next day"
HEY!
NO!
I wanna play cluedo with my bros
NO!
I wanna paint rainbows on my toes
NO!
I don't wanna hoe, I want a comforting look
When Noah kisses Allie in the notebook
(booty booty) It's just a booty call
(booty booty)even if your boo-tiful
(booty booty)It's just a booty call

Now my phones on silent, they still call on private number
I can't believe this desperation to disturb my slumber party
I'm in my dressing gowny while Ashley's making brownies
Dru is in the back room playing twister on his own,
HELL YEAH!
We're wearing our jim-jams
HELL YEAH!
We're playing the flute
HELL YEAH!
We're showing our sizes, the fucking surprise is
that yours hasn't grown

And then I hear my!
B-double-o-t-y
It's three over average girls calling three under average guys
We're fucked up and we're ready to play
We wanna do things we'll regret the next day
B-double-o-t-y
Three overconfident, stereotypical, cheerleader types,
we're fucked up and
We wanna have fun
You can be the boys we'll regret when we're done
NO!
I wanna play Sleeping Lions
NO!
I'm busy defending Zion
NO!
There's no point in calling coz I'll never respond,
The boys and me are getting tits from Legally Blonde,
(booty booty)It's just a booty call
(booty booty)Even if your boo-tiful
(booty booty)It's just a booty call

I'm not a booty call, I'm just a normal boy
I want to stay at home and play with all my toys
We are three boys not looking for three girls,
My Ring-tone's like a missile bringing war to my world
Cheese-strings, Party Rings are my favourite things,
Marshmellows with hot choclate, bitch we're living like kings!
NO!
I wanna have cheese pepperoni
NO!
I wanna play My little Pony!
NO!
I don't wanna hoe, I want a chocolate fountain
Whilst we snuggle up to watch broke back mountain
(booty booty)It's just a booty call
(booty booty)Even if your boo-tiful
It's just a booty call
(booty booty)It's just a booty call
(booty booty)Even if your boo-tiful
It's just a booty call
right------

The Lyrics are significant to our creation of the music video as they are available to memorise so we convey each lyric the way in which we plan.
